Complete Unit Plans for Teaching Secondary English

"Finally - A Unit Plan That Takes All the Stress Out Of Teaching Romeo and Juliet"

Dear Teacher

I'm sure you've had a look around on the net for resources to help you plan your Romeo and Juliet unit or lessons, and I'm sure you've found that there are literally hundreds of lessons to comb over and choose from.  And really, that's the problem isn't it.

The vast majority of these lesson plans are terrible.  Many are simply a waste of class time.  Others are poorly written, confusing, convoluted.

If you're as busy as I am, and as most teachers are, you don't have time to sift through hundreds of lessons looking for the good ones.  It would take hours to put several together to create any kind of complete unit, and such a unit wouldn't flow correctly.  It wouldn't be a cohesive, consistent unit plan.

And this is why you are here.  You have found what you are looking for: a clear, complete, professional, step-by-step, stress-free unit plan that includes everything you need to teach Romeo and Juliet.

With The Complete Romeo and Juliet Unit Plan, all you have to do is show up in class and deliver the goods. You get everything you need to teach a full Romeo and Juliet unit including...

  • 20 lesson plans
  • 7 handouts
  • several assignments and projects
  • a comprehensive unit test
  • answer keys
  • teacher copies of everything
  • and much more!

That means all the work is done for you.  A tiny investment on a complete unit plan will mean...

  • More free time!
  • Less stress!
  • No more late nights!
  • No boring prep work!
  • Compelling curriculum!
  • and complete confidence!

Right now, and only for a limited time, you can get all of this and much more for next to nothing!

This is a digital product - You can have it in your hands within moments of filling in your order information!

Take the Stress Out of Teaching

When I first began teaching, I insisted on doing everything myself.  I wanted to show my colleagues in the English department that I could come up with exceptional lesson plans all on my own.  And often I did, but it meant staying up until 1 or 2 am every night researching and planning.

I'm sure you've experienced what I'm talking about.  When one of my colleagues, a very talented teacher with decades of experience, realized what I was doing, he pulled me aside to have a word.  He asked me, "How much time do you spend planning a lesson?"

I thought about it for a moment and answered that it usually took me about an hour, sometimes more, to plan a good lesson.

He then asked me, "How long are these lessons?"  He knew the answer, but he was making a point.  At our school, periods lasted 80 minutes.  We used 15 minutes of every class for silent reading, and 5 minutes were spent getting settled in at the beginning of class and getting prepared to leave at the end.  As I crunched these numbers it struck me...

I was spending as much time planning as I was teaching!

Each day I was delivering approximately four hours of instruction, and each night I was spending approximately four hours planning.  And then there was the marking on top of that.

My esteemed colleague helped me see the imbalance in my practice.  It was insane to go on spending as much time planning as teaching.  Quite honestly, teachers don't get paid enough to put in double days.  I knew that if I kept going the way I was, I would soon burn out.

Don't Work Double Time

So what to do?  How could I solve this problem?  I didn't want to just show up for work unprepared and have to frantically wing it.  And I didn't want to give boring or pointless lessons.

I wanted to give my students the best scholastic experience I could without over-extending myself.

The answer was that I had to realize there was no need for me to constantly reinvent the wheel.  Thousands of teachers had taught the same texts I was working with.  Why not benefit from their experience?  Why not take the very best of their stuff, tweak it to fit my style and personality, and make my own units that I could then reuse year after year.

I had to make an initial investment - good teaching resources aren't often free - but the potential ROI (return on investment) was tremendous.  I would use this stuff for the rest of my career, so why not spend a little money at the beginning.

Get Incredible Return on Investment

A few bucks is sure worth it for something that is going to make my life considerably easier and less stressful.

So I spent some time and money and put together incredible unit plans using resources and ideas from some of the best educators in the world.  I put each unit plan in its own binder, put each binder in my classroom cupboard, and PRESTO!!!!  my stress level decreased dramatically.

No more staying up all night trying to devise a new, creative, effective lesson.  I had everything already prepared and organized.  All I had to do was go to school and enjoy teaching.

Now I want to help other teachers who might find themselves in a position similar to the one I found myself in early on in my career.

You can make a tiny investment, and instantly take the stress out of your lesson planning.  The best part is you only have to make the investment once, and it keeps paying dividends for the rest of your career.

Romeo and Juliet has consistently been my favourite unit to teach.  And no, it's not because I just love Shakespeare or that I'm a hopeless romantic.

It's because the students often enjoy it more than any other text they study.  You wouldn't think this would be the case.  But with the lessons I've developed and compiled, the play really comes alive for the class.  The kids see how relevant it is to their lives.  They recognize the typical teenage problems: an excess of passion and pride, desperate infatuation and love, intensified emotions, etc.

Click here for a complete summary of the play.

A Good Plan Makes it Easy

This is a play about teenagers, and it can be tremendously entertaining and rewarding for them if taught the right way.

However, if taught the wrong way, Romeo and Juliet quickly becomes a dreadful bore for both the students and the teacher.  It can be an agonizing slog if you don't have a proper plan that emphasizes the right aspects of the play.

anna.jpg Thanks for making my life a whole lot easier.  I wasn’t looking forward to doing Romeo and Juliet with my English 9 class, but your unit plan made it easy – and fun!   I have to admit that I did a lot of searching on the net for free lesson plans, but most of what I found didn’t really work for me.   I bought your unit plan, made a few adjustments to make it feel like my own, and went to class each day and delivered the curriculum just as you laid it out.  The kids had a great time and it wasn’t so scary after all.  Thanks again.

Anna Brook, Waterloo ON

Susan,
I am very impressed with your unit on Romeo and Juliet. I haven't taught it in 34 years, so just wanted to save some time in getting ready.

Thanks,
Steve Lalonde

Excellent unit plan.  Thanks for the help.

~ Dan Ross, Toronto

Hey Susan, Just wanted to let you know that I picked up your unit plan and it really worked out for me. You provide a great service for young teachers like me.  I realized pretty quickly that I would have to lean on those who had gone before me if I wanted to give my students the best possible experience.   Your unit plan allowed me to be myself in the classroom, but I didn’t have to spend a ton of time getting things planned and organized.  Anyways, good stuff Susan.

Aaron Whitmore, Philadelphia

susan2.jpgWow what a great unit plan.  My grade 10 class loved the secret messages activity – it was a great intro to Romeo and Juliet.  They loved the activity, I loved that I didn’t have to come up with it or make the criteria sheet.   The dramatic terms and devices handout is also super useful.  It’s really nice to have a teacher copy with all the information filled in.  I get to stand at the front of the room and pretend I know everything.

Do you have any other unit plans?  I am specifically looking for one on Macbeth.  I studied it when I was in high school, but I haven’t taught it before and I have an English 11 next semester.

Thanks again ~ Rachel

I am very pleased with your Unit Plan.  Your collection of lessons covers all the right ground.  Thank you.

Sincerely

elena.JPG Hello Susan, I wanted to write to thank you for giving me so much help with my teaching practice.  I bought your Romeo and Juliet unit plan and had great success with it in my class.  But what was even more beneficial tome was to see how your unit was developed.  I gained a far better understanding of the planning process and now begin with objectives and let everything else come from that.  Whenever I think of something to do in the class I look back at my objectives and ask myself how the activity fits.  I think it has made me a better teacher.

Susan Field, Seattle WA

Dan.jpgYour Complete Romeo and Juliet Unit Plan made the last four weeks the best I’ve had as an educator.  I actually got some marking done because I didn’t have to spend every night planning like a maniac.

I’ll be sure to recommend this to anyone else looking for teaching resources.

Eric LePaine, Toronto

Hello Susan, thank you for responding to my email asking for more detail about your unit plan.  I bought it last night and after looking through it all today I am really happy with it.

Thanks

Lauren Appleton

barb-pic.jpgThis is an excellent resource, not just for beginning teachers, but also for experienced educators like me.  I’ve been teaching for seven years and I found your unit plan was a great help.  When my principal asked if I would be willing to teach a junior level English class, I said sure. I am a History teacher, but I took several English classes in university and figured it wouldn’t be too hard.  Well it was a bit more challenging than I anticipated.  I ended up having to rely on my colleagues a lot for help.  But with your unit plan I didn’t have to bug anyone for extra resources or help.  It was great.

Your unit plan gets an A+ from me. :)

Diane Hilton

Great unit plan Susan.  You really know your stuff.  I’m not a slacker, but I’ve never been accused of working too hard.  Your unit plan let me look like a superstar and all I had to do was show up.  You really put together a great package and I look forward to getting some additional stuff from you in the near future.

Thanks Susan, Scott McCann

Dear Susan Anderson,

I'd just like to take a moment to thank you.  Your Romeo and Juliet Unit Plan really saved me.  A colleague of mine went on early maternity leave in the middle of the semester and I had to step in and take over her English 10 class.  There were two units left: poetry and Romeo and Juliet.

I was nervous about teaching Romeo and Juliet, but your plan made it so easy and fun that I even felt a little guilty.

You are providing a great service for young teachers, and your unit plans are worth far more than you charge.

Thank you very much

Sharon Reilly
